Dementia Cafe welcomes those living with dementia

The Dementia Café launched on 21 May 2018 and has so far run for 11 sessions.  Staffed by volunteers and members of the CVSU team, it offers a warm, inclusive and supportive environment for local people living with dementia

People living with dementia are invited to come along with their partner, carer or family member and talk/be together over a drink and snack.

Already, the café is proving to be popular, with the same people attending regularly as well as newcomers joining us.  We talk about anything relating to life with dementia, as well as other matters that may help with daily living, such as gardening tips, fire safety in the home, and first aid.

We have visiting professionals who can answer dementia-related questions, and help people navigate their way through a number of issues.  So far these include hearing from a Community Matron about personal care, behavioural issues and a single point of contact for general support; and a Care professional to learn about financial benefits that are available and how to apply, and some of the options for ongoing care.  For the future, we plan to offer dementia friendly outings, such as cinema, music/theatre or other ideas café goers may have.

The Dementia Café runs on Mondays, from 1030 to 1200, at the Uttlesford Community Hub,45 Stortford Road, Great Dunmow, Essex, CM6 1DQ.  For more information, please get in touch with CVSU on 01371 878400 or email info@cvsu.org.uk – or just pop into the café, where you will be most welcome.
