This year we are working with local charity Dunmow Flitch Friendship Club to help this important community asset to grow and thrive
CVS Uttlesford has recently been appointed to the board of Dunmow Flitch Friendship Club and will be providing treasurer and secretary support to the charity over the next twelve months. The group was at serious risk of having to close, as finding people to take on the responsibility of being a trustee has been a challenge. In past years, the charity has been in the news in their quest to find a new Chairperson and we’re pleased to say that Helen Manley has been reappointed to continue in this role for a further twelve months, having got to grips with managing the club last year. Changes have seen a move to new more-affordable premises for the social evening and a reduction in operating costs. Now that the group has been stabilised, we will work together to grow the membership over the next year and ensure there is a strong future for the organisation.
The main club activity is a social evening that happens on the first Thursday of the month, from 6.30 p.m. to approx. 9.00 p.m. at the Rowena Davey Day Centre, on Chequers Lane in Dunmow. It costs just £16 per year to be a member and enjoy the regular club night activities, which almost always includes a live entertainment performance. There are also members Christmas meals, fish and chip suppers and tea parties across the year, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere and a great sense of belonging.
Look out for our new posters and flyers appearing around Dunmow and surrounding villages. We’ll also have a tombola stall at the Dunmow Christmas Lights event on 1st December, raising funds for the club. If you can donate a bottle (new unopened) for the stall please call in at the Community Hub at 45 Stortford Road and see Richard. All donations gratefully received.
We will bring you club news across the year, in which we also hope to include some outings.
